| Stand Up Straight | |||
| By Masters Te Yu and Te Mao Translated by Frances Chan July is the month in which typhoons frequently occur. When violent rainstorms brought by one typhoon tore through Taiwan, many of the big trees planted at the Abode of Still Thoughts were blown down. To straighten the trees up again, we had to cut off most of their dense stems, branches and leaves. Master Cheng Yen was moved when she saw this. "Even though the trees look beautiful, we must often prune away the branches and leaves. Otherwise when a typhoon roars through, the trees will end up looking very ugly. People are the same. We should constantly examine ourselves and straighten up our conduct." |
