STILL THOUGHTS
The Cartoon Version
Translated by E E Ho and W.L. Rathje
Drawings by Tsai Chih-chung; coloring by May E. Gu

The Buddha says:

All living beings often have evil thoughts.
Because of their delusions,
they cannot clearly see the true nature of things.
Their obsession with themselves results in bad behavior and confusion.

This world is full of conflicts: between me and them, right and wrong, inside and outside... These conflicts all come from greed, anger and delusion.

These three lead to endless conflicts and bottomless desires. When you want something, you feel you just have to have it. When you can't have it, you feel as though you lost it.

Would you say more about Tzu Chi's concept of "educating the rich"?

"Educating the rich" means teaching affluent people to open their hearts and to build up their "savings accounts of mercy." Many rich people don't look as if they lack anything, but in their hearts they feel quite empty. Therefore, we want to develop their capacity to help others. We teach them to become "a drop of water that never dries up." When gathered together, all these drops will form a powerful river of goodness.
