In the scorching summer, the water of life for farms becomes the water to cool
down. During the Japanese occupation, the Ailiao River was diverted by dikes,
and extra land thus surfaced. In order to turn this into good farmland, the
Ailiao Waterway was built to extract water from the Ailiao River.
