In recent years, when the government is faced with opposition to building a dam,
it usually draws water from other areas and also builds weirs to solve water
shortages elsewhere. However, Taiwan has limited places to build dams. Although
weirs do less damage than dams, the damage is still quite significant.
Therefore, if each and every piece of available land had a dam to meet the
demand of increasing economical prosperity and population, the rivers wouldn't
look the same and our future generations wouldn't have any water left to drink.
