Manka Lungshan Temple
--Drum and Bell Towers

The Bell Tower on the left and the Drum Tower on the right side of the Lungshan Temple were built in 1919. On Chinese New Year's Eve at 11 p.m., the old drum and bell inside the towers are beaten and rung alternately 108 times. Since the bell and drum in the towers are quite old and it is not easy to climb up the towers, a newer bell is rung early in the morning and a drum beaten in the evening in the main hall. The hexagonal roofs of these towers are decorated with auspicious creatures such as dragons, phoenixes and Chinese unicorns. These magnificent colorful creatures are made of stained glass, porcelain or pottery.
