Dr. Tsai Ah-hsin
1899-1990
First Female Doctor in Taiwan



The first female doctor in Taiwan, Dr. Tsai was the twenty-fifth student to graduate from the Tokyo Women's Medical College, and she also studied at harvard and in Canada. At the age of twenty-seven, she opened the Chin Shin ospital in Taichung and taught improved modern techniques to midwives. The first woman to study Western medicine abroad, Tsai was a legend in a conservative era of modern Taiwanese history.
