
Takagi Tomoe

Father of Medical Care in Taiwan
In 1895, noted bacteriologist Dr. Takagi created an unprecedented serum to fight
against cholera. As the second principal of the Taiwan Governor's Medical
School, he dispatched a number of physicians to study in Germany, all of whom
received MD degrees. During his twenty-eight-year stay in Taiwan, he made a
great contribution to Taiwan's medical care and sanitation.
