There are more than a hundred kinds of Miao costumes, which experts roughly
divide into two categories: Qinjin embroidery and Fangnang Miao embroidery. Most
patterns on Fangnang Miao costumes describe folk stories and legends that have
been passed down orally. These patterns are a very important part of the
pictorial records of the Miao culture.
