STILL THOUGHTS
The Cartoon Version
The Buddha says:

Attachments are the main causes of all sadness and trouble.
We are attached to fortune, fame, and even our egos.
Because we can't let go of these things,
we cause ourselves so much suffering.

An unenlightened person is always greedy and dissatisfied. Rich people still want more money. Powerful people still try to get more control. Men with lovely wives still want attractive mistresses. Parents want children who not only behave well, but are also smart and do everything better than everyone else, so that they will bring glory to the family.

People keep chasing after fame, fortune and love. Living with endless desires is unspeakably painful and causes people to commit all sorts of crimes.

As a Tzu Chi commissioner, how do I deal with my habit of arrogance?

Go to the members under your care. Allow them to praise you, criticize you, support you and yell at you. Let them polish you, just like a whetstone sharpens a knife.
