A
girl came to stay at the Abode of Still Thoughts for a few days because
she wanted to learn the Buddha's teachings. Several days later, her mother
came and angrily demanded that her daughter go home with her, for fear
that she might shave her head and become a nun. But the girl adamantly
refused. Finally, Master Cheng Yen came out to reconcile the two.
"You should go home with your mother now," she said to the girl.
"You can always come again sometime." The girl then reluctantly
went home with her mother. The Master watched them as they left and said
to the people around her, "Just see how blessed all of you are!"
