Numbers of Starving People in the Horn of Africa
According to an estimate by UN staff in Addis Ababa, the cost for helping 13.4 million starving people in Eritrea, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Somalia and Kenya could be US$380 million. The money would provide drought victims enough food, drinking water, medicine and other daily necessities for seven months. Ethiopia has the most serious drought problem among all the countries mentioned above, although drought has affected a total of nine countries in Africa: the above as well as Burundi, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda. The total number of refugees has reached 16 million.
